One Prince Chopra booked in Rs 2 Cr scam of TDS refund in his and relatives account, on the complaint of ITO, is not an outsourced employee of the Income Tax Department. It was clarified today by Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Amritsar Shri LK Aggarwal (IRS).
He further clarified that the said accused Prince Chopra was never posted in Ferozepur office as an outsourced employee or in any capacity. Rather, he worked as an outsourcer for filling TDS returns of various government departments as a professional.
This claim of bugus refunds of Rs.2 Cr may increase may increase during the investigation, as alleged in the FIR as the everything is digitised and it is not possible to bluff the system.
The alleged accused Prince Chopra – who was earlier reported as an outsourced employee – alongwith unidentified been booked under Section 420, 120-B, on account of fraud and cheating in a case registered at Ferozepur Cantt police station on the complaint of ITO Naresh Kumar Bansal, by manipulating the returns.
Prince Chopra now reported to have been engaged by – BDPO Ferozepur, EO Nagar Panchayat Mamdot, EO Municipal Council Ferozepur, SSP CID Zonal, IG Ferozepur, for filing the income tax returns of financial year 2020-21 and 2021-22 and claiming refunds in his own and his relatives ITRs and got the refund accordingly. There are around 11 fake beneficiaries. The accused used to file TDS returns of different departments and revise the same time and again so as to get the claim in the account of beneficiaries, by no sparing even police and CID departments.
Prince Chopra, the alleged accused, who was engaged by various departments managed to attach the PAN card and along with the PAN cards of his other acquaintances to arrange the refund in their bank accounts, which has been unearthed by the Alert and vigilant staff of income tax department.
Meanwhile, the police have started further action by registering a case against the accused and his other accomplices with appointment of Amandeep Kaur as Investigating Officer. However, the accused is still out of the grip of the police but will be nabbed shortly, claimed the police.
