39,815 rural families get pucca houses in Uttarakhand under PMAY-G

DEHRADUN: As many as 39,815 rural families in Uttarakhand have been provided pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since 2022, with Udham Singh Nagar recording the highest number of houses constructed, according to state government figures.Udham Singh Nagar accounted for 4,882 houses, followed by Haridwar with 4,493 and Rudraprayag with 4,032. Chamoli recorded 3,900 houses, while Pithoragarh and Pauri accounted for 3,386 and 3,195 houses respectively. Uttarkashi saw 3,057 houses constructed under the scheme.Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been seeking additional housing allocations from the Centre under both the rural and urban components of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The state government said Uttarakhand has also received national-level recognition for its performance under PMAY-Urban 2.0.Launched in 2016, PMAY-G aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to homeless families and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses in rural areas. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of Rs 1.30 lakh per house through direct benefit transfer into their bank accounts.The state has also increased assistance for purchasing kitchen utensils and other kitchen-related items from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 from 2022-23 onwards. Beneficiaries are provided an additional Rs 12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission through MGNREGA/SWajal.Under the BB Ramji Yojana, beneficiaries are also provided 95 days of wage employment for construction of their houses. The housing support is supplemented with access to basic services such as drinking water, LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme and electricity connections.
