880 flats constructed for housing Kashmiri migrants returning to Valley: Union home ministry

NEW DELHI: As many as 880 flats have been constructed for housing Kashmiri migrants returning to the Kashmir Valley, the home ministry told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Junior home minister Nityanand Rai, in reply to a question, said the J&K government had taken up construction of 6,000 transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant returnees in view of improved security scenario in the Valley. He added that earlier, 5,248 one-room tenements were constructed in Jammu region — spread across Purkhu, Muthi, Nagrota and Jagti — to accommodate the people who had migrated due to terrorism in the year 1989-1990 from their ancestral places of residence in Kashmir to Jammu.
