Organisers planning concerts and large-scale events at the upcoming Sarangpur facility will no longer have to approach multiple departments separately for permissions. The Chandigarh administration is preparing an online application system that will allow organisers to seek approvals through a single-window platform.

Under the proposed mechanism, applicants will submit details of their event, venue requirements, expected footfall, safety arrangements and other mandatory documents online. The application will then be processed by the concerned departments through an integrated system instead of organisers individually obtaining multiple no-objection certificates (NOCs).
The move is aimed at simplifying the approval process for large events and reducing delays caused by coordination between multiple agencies, including the police, municipal corporation, fire department, estate office, engineering department and other regulatory bodies. The district administration already provides an online facility for different categories of event permissions, including concerts, exhibitions and large gatherings.
The development comes as the administration prepares the Sarangpur site as a dedicated destination for mega concerts, exhibitions and cultural events. The administration had earlier decided to develop a temporary concert ground at Sarangpur before the permanent concert-cum-exhibition hub comes up. The pilot facility was planned on around 8–10 acres opposite the IRB complex, while the larger project is proposed on about 25 acres.
Officials said the single-window system would provide major relief to event organisers, who earlier had to coordinate separately with various departments for permissions related to security, traffic management, fire safety, electricity arrangements and venue use.
The need for a streamlined mechanism was felt after repeated concerns during major concerts held at Sector 34 and other central locations, where authorities faced challenges related to traffic congestion, crowd management and public inconvenience. The proposed permanent centre is planned to host national and international events and reduce Chandigarh’s dependence on neighbouring cities such as Mohali and Panchkula for large concerts.
