NEW DELHI: Karan Rajendra Darda of Lokmat was elected president of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2026-27 at the organisation’s 87th annual general meeting held in New Delhi on Monday.The INS, the apex body of publishers of newspapers, magazines and periodicals in the country, said Darda succeeds Vivek Gupta of Sanmarg as president.Darda, executive director of Lokmat Media Group, said he would work towards protecting press freedom, strengthening the newspaper industry, encouraging innovation and ensuring that all members, irrespective of their size, have an equal voice.“Together, we will make Indian journalism stronger and future-ready,” Darda said.Darda joined the family business in 2005 and has contributed to the growth, transformation and diversification of Lokmat Media Group, with a focus on innovation, technology, operational efficiency and new business opportunities. He has also championed Project Butterfly, aimed at paperless workflows, and Project Sky, focused on automation and organisational efficiency.

He has completed multiple IRONMAN 70.3 races and a full marathon.Tanmay Maheshwari of Amar Ujala was elected deputy president, while Harsha Mathew of Vanitha was elected vice president and Anant Nath of Grihshobhika honorary treasurer for 2026-27.Mary Paul will continue as the secretary general of the society.
