Digital asset firms seek sovereign funds’ backing at Delhi meet
Digital asset companies from BRICS and partner countries will seek a bigger place in cross-border payments and institutional investment

NEW DELHI: Digital asset companies from Brics and partner countries will seek a bigger place in cross-border payments and institutional investment at a Delhi roundtable on September 12, alongside a summit whose participants, organisers say, manage $1 trillion. The Brics Digital Asset Round Table will bring together 50 industry leaders at The Oberoi, with participants expected to sign a charter setting out common principles for issuing, safeguarding and settling digital assets, and protecting investors.Convened by the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI), the event will run alongside its inaugural iBrics investment summit on the sidelines of the Brics leaders’ meeting. The $1 trillion figure covers assets managed by sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and family offices expected at the investment summit.Discussions will examine how infrastructure, energy, real estate and critical-minerals projects could attract institutional investment through tokenisation: creating digital tokens representing rights in underlying assets. Participants will consider how investors could hold such instruments alongside conventional investments.Another focus will be making central bank digital currencies work across borders and connecting payment systems such as India’s UPI and Brazil’s Pix.“Until now the allocators of sovereign capital and the builders of those rails have sat in different rooms,” SWFI chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said. The meeting would bring both groups together to discuss digital assets, he added.
