SRINAGAR: Advocate Abu Adil Pandit, representing JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik in the Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat killing case, Saturday filed an application before a Srinagar court, seeking permission to withdraw his power of attorney and cease representing Malik in the proceedings.In his application, Pandit said Malik, in his written submissions, had stated that he had decided not to contest the trial proceedings further. He described Malik’s submissions as a “reflection of the accused’s personal and conscientious consideration of the course he proposes to adopt in the present proceedings.”

In view of that decision and the instructions received from Malik, Pandit said he has no further instructions to continue representing him in the case.He added his application should not be construed as an admission of any fact, allegation, charge, circumstance or contention forming part of the case or as an admission of guilt or acceptance of the allegations against Malik.He also said that his request was confined to the proceedings pending before the court and would not affect separate cases in which he continues to represent Malik.
