NEW DELHI: Former West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee pasted a band-aid over her mouth as a mark of protest before being detained from South Avenue in Delhi along with party leaders Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen and other members.CPM leaders were also detained during the demonstration, PTI reported.Banerjee, who staged a dharna at a bus stand in Delhi’s South Avenue, said the situation appeared to be “bigger than Emergency”.Delhi Police continued to detain protesters, citing the lack of permission for the demonstration. Security was tightened at multiple locations across the national capital as CJP activists remained firm on their call to protest against the Election Commission over alleged voter disenfranchisement. Entry points to Delhi were placed under heightened security, while 46 Metro stations remained closed.Earlier, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and his associates were detained at Delhi airport as they deboarded their flight from Mumbai, where Dipke had been travelling to participate in the protest.

Content creator Dhruv Rathee was also detained from his Gurugram residence.In a pre-recorded video made on Friday in anticipation of a possible arrest, Dipke said the party’s national organisation in-charge, Ajinkya Shinde, would lead the protest at Jantar Mantar until he, spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convener Ashutosh Ranka were released from detention.Meanwhile, security has been stepped up at multiple locations across Delhi as CJP activists remain determined to go ahead with their protest against the Election Commission. Entry points to the national capital are under heightened surveillance, while 46 Metro stations remain closed.
