NEW DELHI: BJP Friday contrasted the upbeat accounts of the Indian economy with its grim outlook during UPA’s term in office to slam opposition for spreading “negativity” as the country hosts Brics summit. It asserted that the participation of so many heads of govt was a testament to India’s growing global acceptance.“IMF acknowledged India’s 7.8% growth rate as accurate and appreciated the resilience of our economy. Under PM Modi‘s leadership, India has emerged from economic distress and established itself as a force contributing to stability in the global economy,” BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad said.When Congress governed, India was bracketed in the ‘fragile five’ but it was now among the world’s top five economies, he added. “Congress members who are lamenting and asking, ‘what did India gain?’ should remember: you drowned India, we rebuilt it,” he said.
