NEW DELHI: Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Monday condemned the alleged harassment of a boy and a girl in Jamui, describing the incident as “truly tragic” and expressing concern over the safety of women in the state.“We are deeply ashamed. The government, however, seems to have lost all sense of shame or decency regarding such events,” Yadav said, referring to the viral video of the incident.While talking to the reporters he questioned the safety of girls in Bihar, alleging that incidents of atrocities against women were increasing across the state.

“Whether it is day or night; whether at college, school, on the street, in a hostel, or even inside or outside their homes—the rise in atrocities against women in Bihar is undeniable,” he said.Yadav also alleged that the government and police focus on suppressing such cases instead of ensuring justice for victims. “It is utterly shameful. A state of lawlessness—gunda-raj—has completely taken hold in Bihar,” he said.Jamui Police has launched an investigation after videos allegedly showing the harassment of a girl by a group of youths surfaced on social media. The videos purportedly show the girl being stopped on the road, subjected to inappropriate physical contact and allegedly dragged. Police have arrested three and registered an FIR after taking cognisance of the viral footage.
