Delhi Jal Board case: Satyendar Jain, four others sent to 14-day judicial custody
The case relates to alleged irregularities in the tendering process for the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants (STPs) under the DJB.

NEW DELHI: Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday remanded former Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain and four other accused to 14-day judicial custody in connection with an alleged corruption case involving the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).The court also remanded accused Ankit Shrivastava to two-day police custody. The bail applications in the case have been listed for hearing on August 25, while the court issued notices on the bail pleas.The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) had produced Jain and the other accused before the court after arresting them in connection with an FIR registered on May 11, 2024. The case relates to alleged irregularities in the tendering process for the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants (STPs) under the DJB.The FIR was registered under Sections 7, 7A, 9 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, along with provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.Following Jain’s arrest, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal questioned Union home minister Amit Shah over the action, alleging that the ACB had been pressured to arrest the former minister.

In a post on X, Kejriwal said, “Amit Shah ji should explain why he got Satyendra Jain arrested by pressuring the investigation agency.”Kejriwal further alleged that an ACB official had claimed there was no plan to arrest Jain until Wednesday morning, before a call was allegedly made by Shah directing the arrest.Meanwhile, BJP MP and former AAP leader Swati Maliwal accused Kejriwal of running a “shop of corruption” during his decade in Delhi politics. She alleged that he avoided holding any ministry during his tenure as chief minister to shift responsibility to ministers when allegations of wrongdoing emerged.
