The air quality in Delhi had significantly improved after sudden overnight showers just ahead of Diwali. However, after Diwali, the air quality consistently dipped and hit ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said that the capital’s pollution levels would be closely monitored for the next two to three days before deciding on implementing measures such as odd-even regulations or artificial rain.

“We will reach this decision (artificial rain and the implementation of odd-even) after observing the situation for the next two to three days. If the pollution escalates to the ‘Severe’ plus category, measures will be implemented to mitigate it,” Gopal Rai said while speaking to ANI.
Further, the minister further added: “Preparations are being made at various places in Delhi for Chhath Puja; this time also, Chhath Puja will be organised at more than 1000 places… Teams have started work regarding that (cleaning of the River Yamuna) also.”
On Wednesday morning, a dense layer of smog enveloped the national capital, with air quality recorded in the ‘severe’ category across various parts of Delhi. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality readings stood at 420 in RK Puram, 408 in New Moti Bagh, 404 in the IGI Airport area, and 433 in Nehru Nagar, all registering within the severe category as of 7 am on Wednesday.
