NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will launch a nationwide protest from October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with party founder Abhijeet Dipke saying the agitation would continue until the poll panel chief steps down.Dipke also demanded that Kumar be booked for a criminal offence and called for greater transparency in the appointment of the CEC, with civil society being involved in the selection process.“Appointment of CEC should be transparent; there should be involvement of civil society,” Dipke said in Mumbai.CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the protest would begin at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2, before spreading to other parts of the country.“The entire country has now realized that no matter how many campaigns we run. This broken, corrupt system is eating up the lives and futures of the young people of this country. We have been demanding change, but none of it will happen if the only tool left to change anything in our society, the right to vote, is taken away from us… Therefore, to ensure that everybody has a fair shot at changing the system and that there is a level playing field for a better system, the young generation of this country has decided that we need to get this fixed.

The protest will begin at Shivaji Park tomorrow, and from there, we will take this protest to the entire country. We will ultimately end it only when Gyanesh Kumar resigns. He has to go. He is a traitor to this country, enemy number one. We will ensure that he is removed from that position, all his crimes are undone, and he pays for the crimes he has committed against the young generation and against the country…”The party has accused the Election Commission of undermining voters’ rights and said its protest campaign would continue until Kumar resigns. These are allegations made by the CJP.Dipke reiterated that the agitation would not be called off until the CEC stepped down.
