LUCKNOW : BSP national president Mayawati welcomed the passage of the women’s reservation bill in both the houses of the parliament but added that the country would have welcomed it more and emphatically if it was implemented without delay. The bill has been passed after a long wait of 27 years, she said in a tweet, adding that how justified will it be to keep it pending for implementation.
Mayawati had urged the government to assure quota for OBC women in the women’s reservation bill as much as a separate allocation of seats in the Lok Sabhaand state assemblies for the women from the SC and ST communities, and not including them in the already existing 33% reservation for these communities in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.Both of her demands were not addressed and the bill was passed.

She said that keeping women from the OBC community, which constitutes a major chunk of the population, out of the reservation is like depriving them of justice. The former UP CM said that this is the neglect of social justice. “But where there’s a will there’s a way. The government must do the needful and provide for early implementation of the bill. “The neglect of women from religious minorities is also unfair”
