JAMMU: A special NIA court in Jammu last week declared a terrorist, wanted in connection with the seizure of several grenades from an overground worker in Poonch’s Surankote area in Oct 2024, a “proclaimed offender” under BNSS Section 84. Nazir Hussain, a native of Hari village in the district, is currently believed to be hiding in Pakistan.Special Judge Prem Sagar passed the order on Oct 1, allowing an application filed by NIA.NIA probe revealed that Hussain—known by multiple aliases, including Ali Khan, Nasir, Naziru, and Shaheen—had allegedly sent the grenade consignment from across the border as part of a conspiracy to carry out terror strikes.

As per the court order, non-bailable arrest warrants earlier issued against Hussain could not be executed because he was not at his residence, and according to NIA’s execution report, had fled to Pakistan. The special court also noted that despite the prosecution’s efforts, including publishing notices in newspapers and J&K’s official gazette, Hussain did not appear or surrender, making it evident that he had been evading arrest.
