A family preparing for their daughter’s marriage has filed a police complaint after getting duped of Rs 20 lakh by a man who promised to book a 5-star hotel in Delhi’s Aerocity for the wedding venue.

The Narang family landed up at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Police Station with a plea for help. The IGI Airport Police have registered an FIR in this regard under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to a senior police officer, the Narang family mentioned in their complaint that they wanted to get their daughter married at JW Marriott in Aerocity. They had met a person named Amir Singh Arora in this regard. Subsequently, a meeting was arranged by a person named Anshu Kapoor.

In the meeting, Arora introduced himself as a partner of a company named Concept and Design and is associated with JW Marriott. It was reportedly discussed in the conversation that there would also be an agreement with the hotel regarding the event.

The complaint stated that after the talks were finalised, the Narang family made an online payment of Rs 20 lakh to Arora. The family mentioned that they were kept waiting for the payment receipt and the agreement from Singh but no such urgency was shown.

In the end, after a few months, the family contacted Arora and asked for the agreement and the receipt. In response, Arora forwarded an email in which there was an acknowledgement of payment of Rs 20 lakh. This raised their suspicion.

The Narang family then reached Marriott. To their surprise, they found out that the hotel had sent no such acknowledgement to them. Hence the family rushed to the police station and registered a complaint. The police have started investigating the matter.
