Independence Day is set to be celebrated in the country with pomp and show. Preparations for the occasion, which falls on 15 August, start well ahead of its time. All over the country, especially in Delhi, major government buildings are illuminated with lights. To promote this day, publications and broadcast networks organise special contests, programs, and articles. Additionally, the President delivers an ‘address to the nation’ on the eve of Independence Day.
On the morning of 15 August, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag. Along with this, the event is commemorated by remembering the sacrifices made by the people, soldiers and freedom fighters alike in setting the nation free from colonial rule.
