The Kochi protest comes after CJP members were detained in Delhi while attempting to hold a demonstration against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR exercise.Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were detained for protesting without permission. Das and Ranka were subsequently arrested after entering the denotified Jantar Mantar site and waving the national flag. They spent a week in jail before being released after giving an undertaking not to organise further protests at the site while it remained denotified.
