The protests followed reports that Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) had dismissed Akoijam from his position as a professor after an internal committee examined allegations by 11 female students. The BJP has claimed that the committee found the allegations to be true. The claims have not been independently verified in the material available.Delhi Police registered an FIR following a complaint by JNU’s chief security officer.
