A committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to convene with members of the law commission, under the leadership of its chairman Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, on Wednesday to further their discussion regarding the feasibility of One Nation, One Election for both Parliament and state assemblies.

The law commission has been actively engaged in formulating a comprehensive report outlining recommendations for facilitating concurrent elections.

Established in early September, the committee has been tasked with investigating the prospect of a unified national poll was subsequently briefed on the existing constitutional provisions that govern electoral laws.

This briefing was conducted by the legislative secretary and the law secretary, with the latter also serving as the secretary of the committee.

A Times of India report said that a few days after notification home minister Amit Shah and law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal called on Ram Nath Kovind ahead of the convening of the full committee meeting which comprised of seven other members, including the home minister, former finance commission chairman N K Singh and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Former LS secretary general Subhash C Kashyap, senior advocate Harish Salve and former CVC Sanjay Kothari are the other members of the committee.
