NEW DELHI: A day after Apna Dal (Kameravadi) announced candidates from three Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has called off its ties with the alliance partner.
Responding to a media inquiry on Thursday, SP president Akhilesh Yadav said, “We were in alliance with Apna Dal (Kameravadi) in the 2022 Assembly polls but the alliance is no longer in place.”
During the 2022 Assembly elections, Apna Dal (K) participated in an alliance with the SP, with its candidate Pallavi Patel contesting on an SP ticket to challenge deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in Sirathu.
The rift between the SP and Apna Dal became evident when a sitting legislator from the latter voted in favor of SP candidate Ramji Lal Suman during the Rajya Sabha elections.
Both the Samajwadi Party and Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) have put forth candidates for Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur Lok Sabha seat. An official within the Samajwadi Party hinted at a lack of prior discussions with Apna Dal (K) regarding Lok Sabha candidates in Uttar Pradesh.
