NEW DELHI: A film on the Statue of Unity will be honoured in the shadow of the monument itself when the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony takes place at Ekta Nagar, formerly Kevadia, in Gujarat September 22.Govt has not spelt out the reason for shifting the ceremony out of New Delhi or indicated whether taking the awards to different locations will become a regular practice. The move nevertheless breaks with a long-established pattern. Instituted in 1954, the awards have overwhelmingly been presented in Delhi although University Centenary Auditorium in Madras, now Chennai, hosted the 17th chapter on November 21, 1970.Among those being honoured is filmmaker Aanand L Rai, who won Best Direction in the non-feature category for Statue of Unity – Ekta ka Prateek.
