NEW DELHI: BJP and Congress sparred ahead of the Brics summit as P Chidambaram questioned if its last few meetings have brought India any tangible benefits, comments slammed by Nitin Nabin as familiar whining by the opposition over the country’s rise and growth.“World is looking at India but comments being made by Congress members are shameful. Rahul Gandhi and Congress netas have been insulting India on foreign soil. Now when India is hosting a big international event, they are again pained,” the BJP chief told reporters.

These “naraz fufas”, a barb PM Modi has used to dismiss criticism from Congress netas, were similarly hurt when India hosted G20 and AI summits, Nabin said. His remarks came after Chidambaram told a news agency, “I don’t think the last two or three Brics summits have resulted in tangible benefits or tangible results. In fact, we are part of Brics, we are part of SCO, we are part of G20 and we are part of Quad. What benefits are we getting out of that? I can’t see. In the last two or three summits, I didn’t see any benefits. Earlier, Brics summits resulted in tangible benefits.”BJP spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi mocked Chidambaram, saying that when so many world leaders are coming to India for the summit, he seems to place his wisdom above theirs.
