NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Tuesday initiated proceedings against Baba Ramdev for endorsing misleading advertisements of medicinal products of Patanjali Ayurveda claiming to cure diseases permanently in violation of its order and the law. It summoned him to appear before it along with company’s MD Acharya Balkrishna on April 2.
A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, which had on Feb 27 issued notice to the company and its MD, decided to also arraign Ramdev in the proceedings as he, too, addressed the presser along with Balkrishna just a week after SC’s last year’s order in which he again reiterated the misleading claim.

The bench took strong exception to Balkrishna for not responding to the court’s notice despite the hearing date being fixed as sought by him.
