NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a fierce attack on the BJP-led Centre, alleging discrimination against Dalits and criticising the practice of “suddhikaran” as a form of discrimination.Rahul alleged that Dalits continue to face discrimination and violations despite constitutional safeguards, accusing the BJP and RSS of promoting untouchability.Addressing a presser at the Congress headquarters, Rahul said the country was witnessing a continuing ideological battle and alleged that Dalits had faced discrimination for thousands of years.

“There is a fight going on two ideologies in the country, whatever politics is happening in this country around these ideologies…for thousands of years dalits have faced violations and even though this discrimination is illegal under the constitution of India still these communities face struggles at every step. The more successful a dalit is the more he is attacked,” he said.Rahul cited the recent row over “suddhikaran” following Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge‘s visit to Uttarakhand as an example of the discrimination faced by Dalits.He alleged that BJP and RSS workers were practising untouchability, calling it a criminal offence under the law.“The BJP and RSS workers are practicing untouchability which is a crime under law,” Rahul said.The Rae Bareli MP also said “Suddhikaran is another name for discrimination.”
