A day after a businessman from Bijnor filed an FIR claiming that five to six men allegedly gang-raped his wife and looted valuables worth Rs 10 lakh after forcefully entering his house, Uttar Pradesh Police cracked the case and found it to be a “fabricated” one. Police said that the woman and her paramour staged the entire incident to pay off his debts.

The 32-year-old accused, identified as Pushpendra Chaudhary, was arrested by police on Thursday.

Times of India quoted Bijnor Superintendent of Police (SP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun as saying, “The woman came under police radar during questioning. In her statement, she said that six men barged into the house around 7 pm on Tuesday. It was not possible as the area remains crowded in the evening hours. Besides, from the initial stage, we knew the criminal was informed about the absence of all other family members.”

Police also found that the married woman and her paramour were constantly in touch over the phone.

During the questioning, it was found that the burn injuries on the woman’s body were made by the accused duo. Following the gang-rape allegations, the woman was sent to a hospital for a medical examination where the reports revealed no injury in her private parts.

“Later, she broke down and confessed to the crime,” police was quoted as saying.

On Wednesday, the accused woman and her husband filed a complaint accusing six unidentified men of gang rape and robbery. As per the complaint, the accused men had broken the locks of the cupboards and robbed gold jewellery, silver, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, and an LED TV installed in a room.

The complaint also claimed that the accused burnt the woman using cigarette butts.

On the basis of the complaint, a case was filed by the police under Sections 328 (causing hurt using poison), 395 (punishment for dacoity), 376d (gangrape), and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
