Atul Subhash suicide: Bengaluru police have filed an FIR against Bengaluru engineer’s wife Nikita Singhania, her mother, brother and her uncle under sections 108 and 3(5) of the BNS.

Amid the ongoing calls for justice for Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, his wife’s family has come out and said that they regret Atul’s death, but are not guilty of what happened. While talking to CNN-News18, they asserted that they will soon come out with proof that they did nothing wrong.
“We are not Guilty of what happened. We will come out with all the proof soon. We have done nothing wrong. We regret the Atul’s death,” the family of Nikita Singhania said.

The 34-year-old Bengaluru engineer Atul Subhash tragically took his life on December 9, allegedly due to harassment from his estranged wife and her family. Notably, the Bengaluru techie’s suicide caused widespread criticism after he documented his struggles in a 90-minute video and a 24-page suicide note in which he revealed that his wife had filed nine cases against him.
After Subhash took his own life by hanging himself at his Bengaluru apartment, his brother Bikas Kumar filed a complaint against four individuals, which the Bengaluru police converted into an FIR. The FIR names Subhash’s wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother, Nisha Singhania, her brother, Anurag Singhania, and her uncle, Sushil Singhania, under sections 108 and 3(5) of the BNS.
SC Expresses Concerns Over Misuse Of Cruelty Law
Meanwhile, amid the growing demands for justice for the 34-year-old Bengaluru engineer, the Supreme Court expressed worry over the rampant use of cruelty law by married women to harass their husbands and in-laws for selfish interests.
A Bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh noted that sometimes the provision, originally intended to protect women from domestic violence and harassment, was being exploited by some women to force her husband and his family to comply with their “unreasonable demands”.
