NEW DELHI: The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP over law and order in West Bengal, claiming that more than 2,400 rape cases were recorded in the state in just five months. In a post on X, the All India Trinamool Congress cited figures attributed to the State Crime Records Bureau and claimed that 2,454 rape cases were registered during the five-month period. The party also cited figures for other crimes, claiming that Bengal recorded 600 murder cases, 13,114 attempted murder cases and 32,341 cases of assault causing grievous hurt during the same period.“2,400+ RAPE CASES IN BENGAL IN JUST 5 MONTHS UNDER BJP!” the TMC said in its post, accusing the BJP of turning Bengal into a place where women and ordinary citizens are increasingly being forced to live in fear.‘Is this Bhorsha In, Bhoy Out?’The party questioned the BJP’s claim of ensuring a “safe and secure Bengal”, asking whether the crime figures reflected the reality behind its promises.“Is this the ‘safe and secure Bengal’ BJP promised?” the TMC asked, referring to the BJP’s “Bhorsha In, Bhoy Out” slogan.

The party said the people of Bengal deserved “security, accountability and justice” rather than what it called “jumlas”.The TMC also directly targeted CM Suvendu Adhikari, accusing him of hiding behind “slogans and hollow promises” and alleging that he had failed the people of Bengal.“YOU have failed the people of Bengal,” the party said, adding that it had been raising the issue since the beginning and that the alleged failures of the BJP were becoming harder to hide.
