Shashi Tharoor attacks Modi govt

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday reiterated the opposition’s slogan against the Narendra Modi-led government, declaring, “This government will go”.The Thiruvananthapuram MP’s remarks come amid mounting opposition criticism of the Centre over its handling of the controversy surrounding CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s SIR exercise, as well as the use of security forces to crack down on protests against the CEC.Tharoor retweeted a post by Rahul Gandhi, who had used the same slogan on October 10, adding the caption, “This government will go”.Opposition parties have stepped up their criticism of the Centre amid allegations of irregularities in the SIR exercise conducted under Kumar’s leadership.

Rahul Gandhi has also led protests against the CEC and demanded his resignation. The newly formed youth-led pressure group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has also targeted Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his removal. However, the CJP’s proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 was largely curtailed after Centre’s security crackdown by authorities.CJP’s core team and other political figures, including Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Pinarayi Vijayan, were detained.
